From the start, Apotek K-24 commits to “Sell Original Medicine Only” and started from 2007 Apotek K-24 has a program called “Apotek K-24 Perangi Obat Palsu! (Apotek K-24 Fights Against Counterfeit Medicine)”. PT. K-24 Indonesia as the franchisor requires the franchisees in the SOP to only buy medicine from official suppliers which are trusted and recommended from the central office. During the grand opening of 45 new outlets of Apotek K-24 simultaneously on 25 November 2013, Apotek K-24 has confirmed its commitment to participate actively in fighting against counterfeit and illegal medicine which are dangerous to health and life by supporting GN-WOMI or national movement in the awareness of illegal drugs and foods which is arranged by Indonesia National Agency of Drugs and Foods Controls (BPOM RI). The grand opening now carries the theme “We only sell original medicine, let’s support GN-WOMI”
The form of support by PT. K-24 Indonesia as the franchisor (brand owner) of Apotek K-24 is by signing the declaration to support GN-WOMI (national movement in the awareness of illegal drugs and foods). This declaration of support was done during the launching of 45 new outlets of Apotek K-24 in 13 provinces in Indonesia (South Sumatra, Riau, Lampung, DKI, West Java, DIY, Central Java, East Java, Bali, South Kalimantan, South Sulawesi, NTT, and Papua), which was centralized in Apotek K-24 Cinunuk, Bandung (25/11). The declaration was done by the chairman of PT. K-24 Indonesia along with the Director of Therapeutic Medicine Distribution, and the Production of Medical Devices and Household Products (PKRT) BPOM RI. The head of BPOM in West Java, the chief of IAI Bandung, and the head of Health Government Organization Bandung.
The active role of Apotek K-24 In GN-WOMI is in line with the instruction from BPOM RI to private sectors, especially health experts to act as the connector of national movement by selling original medicine and maintaining the chain of distribution so that people will be avoided from illegal and counterfeit medicine, and participating actively in education and spreading information to people, especially about illegal food and drug awareness, because of the spreading case of illegal foods and drugs in people’s lives.
As mentioned before, BPOM RI arranged GN-WOMI to stop the demand chain in distribution of illegal drugs and foods by educating people as the consumers of drugs and medicine to be more aware so that they can protect themselves towards the distribution of illegal drugs and foods. GN-WOMI is one of initiatives from the Task Force for Illegal Drugs and Foods Eradication in the field of Prevention and Deterrence as a national movement that involves all parties, both government organization, stakeholder (pharmaceutical manufacturer, distributor, pharmacy, profession association, etc)m and people in general to actively participate and increase awareness in fighting against illegal drugs and medicine.
It is expected from this movement that people’s education about the risk of illegal drugs and foods will be improved, and people will be more aware to know and identify safe foods and drugs. Besides, it is also expected for the people to buy medicine and foods in the licensed stores that only sell the original one so that people can protect their own selves from the dangerous of illegal drug and foods.
