BASIC MEDICAL EDUCATION TO INCREASE SERVICE QUALITY IN APOTEK K-24

Pharmaceutical service now shifts its orientation from drug oriented to patient oriented by referring to Pharmaceutical Care. The activity of pharmaceutical care which was focused on medicine management as a commodity now changed to comprehensive service that aims to improve patients’ life quality.

As the consequence of that orientation change, pharmacist is expected to always widen knowledge and skill so that they can communicate with other health staffs actively and to directly communicate with patients. That demand is a challenge for pharmacist to change pharmacy or pharmacist image to be better. One of the ways is to increase competence in KIE (communication, information, and education)

Apotek K-24 which now has more than 330 outlets that spread in Indonesia, routinely holds training programs in order to maintain the availability and to increase the quality of human resources, especially pharmacist. It is expected for the training participant to be able to maintain service quality according to the culture and character of Apotek K-24. One of those training programs is Basic Medical Education (BME)

Last Saturday (29/9) Apotek K-24 collaborated with Pfizer to hold BME training program that is routinely held every month for pharmacist in the area of D.I Yogyakarta and Central Java. The theme chosen is A Guidance of Cholesterol and Hypertension Therapy According to American Heart Association (AHA) and Joint National Committee (JNC) 2013 with the speakers were dr. Deviyana V. Florencia (Medical Team of PT. Pfizer Indonesia) and Nanang Munif Yasin, M. Pharm., Apt (the secretary of PD IAI DIY). The training was located at the Hall of K-24 Academy at Jl. Tambak Kav-24, Kasihan, Bantul – DIY, and participated by 50 pharmacists from DIY and Central Java.

The purpose of this BME training program is to help pharmacist (especially pharmacist from Apotek K-24) in understanding diseases which were often suffered by people, including its symptoms, so that the pharmacists can educate people about healthy life tips to prevent those diseases.

For Apotek K-24, human resources training has significant role, mainly in self development, knowledge enrichment,  and human resources skill, especially pharmacist. Besides teaching team from the associates of Apotek K-24, in this BME training program there were also lecturers from outside of Apotek K-24 who are expert in certain fields, for example Pharmacist Association Indonesia (IAI) for pharmaceutical, doctor for health, and other experts.

The other purposes of BME training program is to increase selling in Apotek K-24 outlets because in this program pharmacists were also trained to know tactics and selling strategy with CARE (customer, activities, relationship, and enterprising) approach so that the service to customers will be maximized.
