As Indonesian, our mindset that focuses on the government key role in providing job opportunities should be changed slowly. Every student finishing their education in Indonesia has a paradigm that incidentally roots in their mind. It becomes boomerang and also flaw in Indonesia education, because the students from elementary school to high education are taught to have mindset that after graduating they have to be employee. Everyone feels comfortable with that condition and thinks that being rich is a taboo thing.
As one of milestones in your life, here I want to introduce a concept in how we do entrepreneurship. Maturity does not depend on your age, so that being successful in young age is possible. The key of success can be gained by working hard while intelligence and others are just supporting factors. The more often you train yourself to be an entrepreneur, the higher your chance to be a successful businessman. Entrepreneur is a person with art and certain skill to create new opportunities and business by facing the risk and uncertainty in gaining profit and developing business by understanding chance and using the needed resources. With less-than-great experience, someone can see chance, “Gideon Hartono, during one rainy night, tried to find pharmacy to buy medicine. However, after he found one, the price of the medicine he bought multiplied up to fourfold from normal price. Because of that experience, he got an idea to establish Apotek K-24 (Kompli 24 Jam - Complete for 24 hours), in which the pharmacy sells medicine with normal price all the time. Until now, Apotek K-24 develops greatly with outlets that are expanded across nation,”
We can contribute for real to our surrounding, instead of waiting for government’s action. Private contribution given by large companies or UKM (small and middle entreprises) is very significant in developing country’s economy. The steps we need are increasing job opportunities, increasing life quality, increasing average income, using and mobilizing resources to increase national productivity, and increasing national income by paying tax.
According to several figures, entrepreneurship development can push economy growth and open new job opportunities (Schumpeter, 1971), create many new creativity and innovation in both business and technology (Porter, 1990), increase competition quality that leads to the increase of value in people (Iumpkin and Dess, 1996), lower budget and time needed because of uncertainty (McGrath, 1992), and welfare that is basically a created wealth (Porter, 2004). One big jump is started from small step you take today. Dare to be an entrepreneur. (ss)
