BeritaBisnis - If you are faced with question, which pharmacy that opens for 24 hours? It is easy to answer it. The reason is beside your house or in the area where you live there is a pharmacy that opens for 24 hours, 7 days in a week, and 365 days in a year.
Or else, you can also face difficulties in answering it. It makes sense because most of the pharmacy has closing hour. The latest one might be closed at 10 pm. And,when national holiday in which most of business is closed, pharmacy also closed. Meanwhile, customers’ need of medicine, moreover prescribed medicine or ethical, cannot be predicted. Sometimes, they need ethical medicine in the middle of the night. Even more, there are many people who also need it during dawn. In Yogyakarta, that condition might be rare to happen. At least, it would not happen since 24 October 2002, when Apotek K-24 established for the first time with 24 hours concept. This concept is still applied until now. Apotek K-24 was started in Yogyakarta and established by dr. Gideon Hartono. Until September 2011, 260 outlets are launched in 62 cities across Indonesia. From those 260 outlets, mostly are located in Java, which is mostly located in Jakarta. In this city, there are 56 outlets of Apotek K-24 operating for 24 hours. The fast growth of Apotek K-24 chain in less than 9 years cannot be separated from the application of franchise partnership strategy since 2005. As the result, from 260 outlets which has launched, there are only 10 outlets owned by the franchisor (PT. K-24 Indonesia). The others are owned by the franchisee. Even though owning 260 outlets, PT. K-24 Indonesia actually is not the owner of the largest pharmacy chain in Indonesia. That title is more suitable for PT. Kimia Farma. This pioneer of pharmacy industry in Indonesia now has 394 outlets across Indonesia. In operational, Kimia Farma pharmacy chain is under PT. Kimia Farma Apotek, the subsidiary of PT. Kimia Farma Tbk. Compared to the other pharmacy entrepreneurs, Kimia Farma Apotek which has vision to be the leading chain pharmacy company in Indonesia, has strong grip in the east part of Indonesia. It can be proven from the total of 394 outlets, there are 44 outlets in the East Indonesia. From that 44 outlets, 19 outlets are located in Manado, and if 24 outlets in Bali added, the total of the outlets is 68 outlets of Kimia Farma pharmacy located in east Indonesia. The rest of it, 26 outlets concentrated in Jakarta Timur, Jakarta Utara, Jakarta Pusat, and Bekasi. Then, 26 outlets operated in Surabaya. 23 more outlets are located in Bandung. In Semarang, there are 21 outlets. Similar to Apotek K-24, Kimia Farma pharmacy also implemented franchise system to spread its wings. However, Kimia Farma has to work harder to market the partnership system offered. Until now, the franchisee of Kimia Farma is not that much. Then, who is in the second place? With the support of 350 outlets, the second place is owned by PT. Century Franchisindo Utama, or the Century Group, the owner and manager of Century Pharma, Century Healthcare, and Apotik Plus.
Open for 24 Hours
In 1993, Eddie Lembong established PT. Century Franchisindo Utama which later develops greatly because of the application of franchise strategy. The Century Group now operate 280 company owned pharmacy and 70 franchisee owned pharmacy. Different from Apotek K-24, Century Group only opens several pharmacy that opens for 24 hours. The next position is obviously Apotek K-24 which has 260 outlets. After that, Roxy pharmacy placed after it with 22 outlets which are all located in Jabodetabek. Roxy pharmacy claimed to be the first and only pharmacy in Indonesia that applies quality standar of ISO 9001:2008. RNI Group, by PT. Phapros Tbk owned 8 outlets of Nusindo Farma and planned to launch 14 more outlets.
The owner of My Salon, Thomas Lie, also joined this business. By opening Apotex which is just launched compared to other pharmacy business owners, Thomas has launched 6 branches which are located at Surabaya. Franchise system becomes the power to spread his wings. A source mentioned that in 2011, pharmaceutical business which is mostly concentrated in pharmacy chain, estimated to have omzet for about Rp. 41.99 trillion. In the future, that number is believed to increase for about 10-15%
